Building a Pontoon Bridge. The first section is assembled on the shore and carried quickly into the water, where it is attached to the supporting cable on which it slides further mid-stream as other sections are added. This unit, under the direction of Captain Nakada, 232nd engineers, can assemble a pontoon bridge in a matter of minutes. The 442nd combat team at Camp Shelby is composed entirely of Americans of Japanese descent who volunteered for services in the armed forces.
